Laurentius Weger the Younger

Laurentius Weger the Younger (born December 30, 1653 in Königsberg , East Prussia ; † May 21, 1715 ibid) was a German philologist.

Life

Laurentius was the son of Johann Weger, mayor of Königsberg's old town (* January 17, 1608 - December 3, 1685) and Maria, whom he married in 1638 and who died on February 5, 1672. Maria was the daughter of the surgeon Albrecht Möller. After Weger had studied at the Universities of Königsberg , Jena and Leipzig , he graduated from the latter university on January 25, 1677 with a master's degree in philosophy. He then returned to Königsberg. The local university appointed him in 1679 as professor of the oriental language.

During his time as a professor, Weger traveled through the Netherlands and England. He also stayed with Esdras Edzardus in Hamburg for almost a year . At the end of 1680 he received the professorship of the Hebrew language in Königsberg. During the following time he also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. He was dean of the philosophical faculty several times. In the summer semester of 1696 he acted as rector of the alma mater and in the summer semesters of 1704 and 1712 as prorector.

Weger married Anna Regina on August 29, 1684, the daughter of the Kneiphof merchant Hieronymus Grube. The following children from marriage are known:
