Laurentius Weger the Elder

Laurentius Weger the Elder (also: Lorenz Weger ; born August 9, 1599 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † October 1, 1629 there ) was a German philosopher.

Life

Laurentius was the son of the ducal court surgeon in Königsberg Johann Weger and his wife Barbara Dannenhauser. He had studied at the University of Königsberg and in 1621 at the University of Wittenberg . On April 4, 1623, when he returned to Koenigsberg, he acquired the degree of master's degree in philosophy.

In the same year he became vice principal of the school in the old town of Königsberg and in 1624 professor at the orthodox high school Collegio Ruthenico in Wilna . In 1626 he was appointed to the University of Königsberg as professor of logic and metaphysics (dialectics), where he died after a short period of work. In his works he shows himself to be a follower of the philosophy of Aristotle .

On October 16, 1628 he married Elisabeth (* November 6, 1601; † January 6, 1678), the daughter of the Burgrave in Lyck Christoph Schützer on Malinowken, the widow of the mayor Lorenz Becke in Sehesten. After his death, his widow married the hunting counselor Dr. Christoph von Wegner in Damerau. From the marriage comes a son Lorenz Weger (born October 31, 1629, † February 1630)
