Previous model Laverda SF

The Laverda 750 SFC was a sports motorcycle from the former Italian manufacturer Laverda , which was successfully used in long-distance races in the Formula 750 . The Laverda 750 SFC, always painted in orange, was one of the fastest street motorcycles in the early 1970s and the manufacturer's best-known model. The Laverda 750 SFC is coveted among collectors, especially well-preserved copies of the first series are traded for over 40,000 euros.

History and technology

The Laverda 750 appeared on the market in 1968, a stable and high-torque motorcycle with 750 cm³ displacement (bore / stroke: 80 × 74 mm), whose twin engine made 60 hp (44 kW) at 6500 rpm. The chassis consisted of an open double tube frame , 35 mm Ceriani telescopic fork , two-arm swing arm and 3.25-18 tires (front), later 3.50-18, and 4.00-18 tires (rear). The model turned out to be very reliable. Massimo Laverda, son of the company founder, drove long-distance races on a further developed version from 1969; the Laverda team won the Monza 500 km in 1970 and the Montjuïc 24 Hours in 1971 .

In May 1971 the Laverda 750 SFC ( Super Freni Competizione ), a special version for racing, was presented. The first 20 copies were intended exclusively for the competition. Compared to the Laverda 750 SF , there were not only visual changes. A hump seat bench with a lower seating position, narrow half-shell paneling and aluminum tank were evident. The more powerful engine with a larger oil pump and more heavily dimensioned bearings now developed 70 hp at 7300 rpm. The Laverda 750 SFC was only partially suitable for road approval. With a price of 10,000  D-Marks , it was one of the most expensive motorcycles on the German market. The second series built since 1974 (222 units, half of which were delivered to the USA) received 280 mm Brembo disc brakes instead of 230 mm duplex drum brakes and thicker (38 mm) stanchions for the Ceriani telescopic fork . In the third series (160 units) built from 1975 to 1976, the battery coil ignition was replaced by a contactless Bosch thyristor ignition.
