Lawnmower Deth was an English thrash metal band active in the late 1980s and early 1990s who parodied the metal genre .
history
The band was founded in 1987 in Mansfield , England under the name SCRAWM and released the demo Demented Genius . After the band members had decided to combine their style with humor, they changed the band name to Lawnmower Deth (English, about "lawn mower death"). Under the new name, the band released the demos It's A Lot Less Bovver Than A Hovver and Mowdeer , which gave them a contract with Earache Records in 1989 .
Their first release was a split with Metal Duck . The positive reactions to Lawnmower Deth's part Mower Liberation Front led to the first album Ooh Crikey, It's… Lawnmower Deth , which was released in 1990 and contained some live recordings.
In addition to their own pieces, Lawnmower Deth also recorded some cover versions of well-known songs, including The Chain by Fleetwood Mac , Motörhead by Motörhead , Up the Junction by Squeeze and Crazy Horses by The Osmonds . The rendition of Kim Wilde's Kids in America was released in 1991 as the band's only single .
In 1992 the second album Return of the Fabulous Metal Bozo Clowns was released . The band produced music videos for the two songs on the record, Kids in America and Lawnmowers for Heroes, Comics for Zeros , but they were filmed with amateur cameras in the style of the band .
With the 1993 album Billy , the style of the band changed to punk . However, as the disc failed and Lawnmower Deth's live performances received less and less attention, the group broke up in late 1994.
In the years that followed, rumors of a reunion often circulated , but they were never confirmed.
