Lawrence James "Larry" DeLucas (born July 11, 1950 in Syracuse , New York ) is a former American astronaut .

education

DeLucas received a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1972 and a master's degree in chemistry in 1974 . In 1979 he received a bachelor's degree in Physiological Optics and in 1981 he wrote a PhD in Optometry and in 1982 a PhD in Biochemistry. He has a total of four honorary doctorates.

He is Professor of Optometry at the University of Alabama , Birmingham .

Astronaut activity

STS-50

During the STS-50 mission , DeLucas was a payload specialist on the Columbia space shuttle . The mission started on June 25, 1992. The primary payload was the USML-1 microgravity laboratory, a manned Spacelab module. Numerous experiments have been conducted to study the crystal growth of zeolite , surface tension physics, and human physiology.

Lawrence DeLucas is married with three children.
