LeRoi Moore

LeRoi Holloway Moore (born September 7, 1961 in Durham , North Carolina , † August 19, 2008 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American saxophonist, known as a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band .

biography

Moore was born on September 7, 1961 in Durham to Roxie Holloway Moore and Albert P. Moore. He grew up in Virginia, where he attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg , Virginia and studied tenor saxophone . A little later he was a respected jazz musician in Charlottesville and played with artists such as John D'Earth and Dawn Thompson , among others . At one of the regular concerts of the John D'earths Quintet, he met Dave Matthews in 1991. To aid this in his self-written songs, Moore began recording tracks with Dave Matthews.

Moore played bass, baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophone , as well as flute , bass clarinet and tin whistle . In addition to his appearances with the Dave Matthews Band, Moore appeared on Code Magenta's album and Soko's album "In November Sunlight" .

Moore was seriously injured in an accident on his farm on June 30, 2008. He broke several ribs and tore his lungs. On August 19, 2008, it was announced on the official Dave Matthews Band website that Moore had died of complications from his injury. He was buried on August 27, 2008 in Albermale County.
