Le Vingtième Siècle

Le Vingtième Siècle or Le XXe Siècle (The Twentieth Century) was a Belgian newspaper published from 1895 to 1940. In the children's supplement Le Petit Vingtième (Little Twentieth), the first Tintin published -Comicgeschichten.

The Catholic conservative newspaper was founded by Georges Helleputte, Joseph d'Ursel and Athanase de Brocqueville (brother of the former Prime Minister Charles de Broqueville ). The first edition was published on June 6, 1895. In 1914 Fernand Neuray took over the newspaper as editor-in-chief. In 1928, Pastor Norbert Wallez founded the children's supplement Le Petit Vingtième , where the comic artist Hergé became editor-in-chief. At Wallez's request, there were other side dishes. In 1940 the newspaper was shut down because of the Second World War .
