Christ Movement "Living Church"

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Christ Movement "Living Congregation" , until 2011 Ludwig-Hofacker-Vereinigung e. V. , based in Korntal-Münchingen , is an association of evangelical Christians with a pietistic background within the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . It sees itself as a forum and collecting basin for the Württemberg community and awakening movement as well as diaconal and missionary organizations and actions that are connected to Württemberg pietism.

As a co-founder, the association is a member of the Conference of Confessing Communities in the Evangelical Churches in Germany .

history

At the beginning of 1951, Julius Beck, member of the regional church assembly, gathered a group of representatives, consisting of theologians and lay people, key figures from both older and newer Swabian pietism, as well as representatives of church life to form a “church-theological working group”. It became the nucleus of the Ludwig Hofacker Association . The leaflet “It's all about the Bible!” Was created in this working group, dealing with Rudolf Bultmann's liberal theology. A member of the working group was Fritz Grünzweig , at that time pastor in Korntal, who formed the Ludwig-Hofacker-Vereinigung (Evangelical Working Group for the Bible and Confession in Württemberg) as a network of parishes, youth and community associations, mission organizations, the house group movement and many other Christian initiatives initiated by the Württemberg regional church. The association derives its name and program from the Württemberg pastor Ludwig Hofacker (1798–1828). He was a vicar preacher at the Leonhardskirche in Stuttgart and later a pastor in Rielingshausen. He is one of the fathers of the Württemberg revival movement . The guiding principles of the Ludwig Hofacker Association are: "Make Jesus great, not yourself" and "Commitment to our church". In the Ludwig-Hofacker-Kreis , around 40 people in charge from factories and associations regularly exchange ideas. Today the network is called the Christ Movement “Living Church” .

Institutions such as the Albrecht Bengel House or the Missionary Works Help for Brothers emerged from this, as well as after the separation of the evangelical movement at the Kirchentag in 1969, since 1973 the congregation day under the word , from 2014 called Christ Day, the evangelical counter-movement to the Kirchentag. In 2015 the Kirchentag and Christustag cooperated for the first time. This was continued in Berlin in 2017. In 1971 the synodal discussion group Lebendige Gemeinde was founded together with the Evangelical Collection and the YMCA .

activities

The association supports evening Bible schools, the Christian Pedagogue Day, which takes place every two years, and other lecture evenings in the congregations. It has organized the annual Corpus Christi conference since 1955, initiated by Walter Tlach , later the Ludwig Hofacker Conference and now called Christ's Day , as well as the Youth Missions Conference and the Württemberg Orientation Days series . By supporting missionary and evangelistic campaigns such as Pro Christ , Beginning Again , JesusHouse and other events, the Ludwig Hofacker Association wants to win people over to believe in Jesus Christ.

Church political work

The association has been the largest discussion group (comparable to parliamentary groups in parliament) in the Württemberg regional synod for many decades and represents the interests of the communities of Württemberg Pietism , the Evangelical Collection , the YMCA- Württemberg regional association, the South German and South-West German EC association , the forum missionary women , the Church on the move , the home group movement and other groups. The positions of the discussion group are shaped by the demand for a more missionary-oriented work of the regional church and a " biblical theology". In terms of social policy, the Lebendige Gemeinde (Living Community) takes conservative views.

Publications

The association has published sermon meditations Confidence and Strength ( ISSN  0722-3234 ) and a series of sermons for preachers in Württemberg since 1982 . In the free journal Lebendige Gemeinde ( DNB ) , which has been published quarterly since 1967 , she informs about her work as well as important developments and trends within the Württemberg regional church and beyond. The editorial team includes chairman Friedemann Kuttler, managing director Dieter Abrell, freelance editor Ute Mayer, pastor Traugott Messner, pastor and journalist Steffen Kern, journalist Claudius Schillinger and theology student and author Andreas Schmierer.
