Lecanora muralis (Syn. Lecanora saxicola ; sometimes also referred to as wall lichen ) is an epilithic lichen from the family of Lecanoraceae that is common in Central Europe.

description

Lecanora muralis is a crusty lichen, that is, its bed ( thallus ) lies close to the base. The rosette bearing is pale (gray) green in color and can reach a diameter of up to 10 cm. It can also be frosted on lime. At the edge it is clearly lobed, the narrow lobules are elongated, radially aligned, more or less branched and often widened at the edge. Rhizines are not present. The fruiting bodies ( apothecia ), which are close to the center of the camp, reach a diameter of up to 1.5 mm. Their discs are beige, light brown to pale brown-green or red-brown. Their edge is light (stock color). They are round, but also appear deformed due to mutual pressure. Overall, the appearance of this type of lichen is very variable.

distribution

The very resistant Lecanora muralis , which is common in Central Europe, grows epilithically on nutrient-rich limestone or silicate rock, often on wall crowns, gravestones or other anthropogenic substrates, such as exposed aggregate concrete , bricks or asphalt ; seldom also on wood. As a cosmopolitan, the species is distributed worldwide.
