Lecanora is a genus of crust lichen .
features
The camp ( thallus ) is white to gray-green, sometimes slightly yellow, crust-shaped and sometimes has clearly lobed edges. The apothecia are lecanoroid, the spores are un septate and colorless. The formerly very extensive genus Lecanora used to contain species that have since been separated into their own genera, such as Aspicilia , Rhizoplaca and Squamarina .
The types are divided into two sections:
- Eulecanora with completely crust-shaped bearings and
- Placodium with more or less pronounced lateral lobes
Ecology and diffusion
Lichen of the genus Lecanora can usually be found on natural rock or on walls, house walls and sidewalks, but some species can also be found on tree bark or wood. They can grow one to several millimeters per year, expanding radially. Rings form as the older center dies off. So they can often be several decades, sometimes several centuries old.
The genus is distributed almost worldwide and can also be found in the polar regions.
