The Lecithoceridae are a relatively little known family of small butterflies with over 100 genera and more than 1200 species.

features

The Lecithoceridae are adult small butterflies with a wingspan of 7 to 26 millimeters, smoothly scaled heads and without ocelles . The fore wings are elongated, without pterostigma . The hind wings are about as wide as the fore wings. The wing veins are completely or variably reduced. The family is characterized by very long antennae , usually longer than the fore wings . In addition, the gnathos of the male's sexual organs are bent downward or absent. The eggs are erect, the caterpillars have thick secondary hairs.

distribution

The known species of the Lecithoceridae are mostly common in the oriental and Australian regions; the distribution area also includes the southern part of the Palearctic . Lecithocerides occur mainly in tropical and subtropical areas.
