The Lecithoceridae are a relatively little known family of small butterflies with over 100 genera and more than 1200 species.
features
The Lecithoceridae are adult small butterflies with a wingspan of 7 to 26 millimeters, smoothly scaled heads and without ocelles . The fore wings are elongated, without pterostigma . The hind wings are about as wide as the fore wings. The wing veins are completely or variably reduced. The family is characterized by very long antennae , usually longer than the fore wings . In addition, the gnathos of the male's sexual organs are bent downward or absent. The eggs are erect, the caterpillars have thick secondary hairs.
