Fire bucket
Fire Bucket , Austrian. Extinguishing bucket used to be a widespread equipment, in order for fires to draw the water by hand. They were also mandatory as a small extinguisher in every household. Extinguishing buckets were usually marked with the name or initials of the owner or the fire department location. The space-saving folding buckets , but also buckets made of galvanized steel , wood, leather, raffia or wickerwork serve as extinguishing buckets . Extinguishing buckets are often equipped with a second handle that is attached to the floor. So they can be hung with the opening facing down so that no water remains in them, which could lead to rust or rot. When in use, this handle makes it easier to pour out the water.

It was strictly ensured that every landlord always had a tub filled with water ready and a leather fire bucket with a name at hand. Each municipality had to keep a certain number of buckets in stock. No resident was allowed to marry or be accepted as a subject who had not supplied the community buckets with a new one with the year and name.
With the increasing spread of fire extinguishers , the extinguisher buckets lost their importance, but in individual cases they are still used by fire departments to fill the fire extinguisher pump before commissioning, for example if the ventilation device fails or if very old pumps are occasionally used.
