Lee Abrams

Lee Abrams (* 6. January 1925 in New York City as Leon Abramson ; † 20th April 1992 ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Lee Abrams did his military service from 1943 to 1946 and then played a. a. with Roy Eldridge in 1947 and various bands in the jazz clubs on 52nd Street , such as Coleman Hawkins , JJ Johnson , Eddie Lockjaw Davis . In the late 1940s he worked in Eddie Heywood's Trio and in Andy Kirk's orchestra . In the 1950s he accompanied Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Illinois Jacquet , Oscar Pettiford (1952) and Lester Young (1953); afterwards he worked as a freelance musician a. a. worked with Al Haig , leading workshops and teaching in Brooklyn. In the 1980s he was still employed in his brother Ray's big band . A film about him called Joe Albany ... A Jazz Life was being made during this time . Recordings with this drummer of swing and modern jazz can be found with Bennie Green , Roy Eldridge, Andy Kirk, with Al Haig, Wynton Kelly and Duke Jordan .
