Lee Eun-ju (born December 22, 1980 in Gunsan , Jeollabuk-do , † February 22, 2005 in Seongnam ) was a South Korean singer and actress .
Life
Lee Eun-ju was discovered for modeling at the age of 16 and already played her first television and film roles two years later. By the age of 20 she was already well known and a promising talent in South Korean cinema. In her film roles, she often embodied an unhappy and tragic character who either dies or dies voluntarily at the end of the film. Her best-known films include O! Sujeong (2000, by Hong Sang-soo ), Bungee Jumping of Their Own (2001), Lover's Concerto (2002), Brotherhood (2004) and The Scarlet Letter (2004). It was her last film before she committed suicide in her apartment on February 22, 2005 - just days after graduating from Dankook University . According to the family, Eun-ju had been struggling with depression and other mental health problems since the portrayal of some nude scenes in The Scarlet Letter .
