Lee Jeong-il (born July 30, 1990 in Jeonju ) is a South Korean natural toboggan runner . He started in the World Cup in 2009 and won World Cup points as the second natural track luge in his country. Together with Yang Hyun-min , he was the first South Korean to take part in a natural track luge world championship.

Career

Lee Jeong-il and his compatriot Yang Hyun-min were the first South Korean to compete in the World Cup in the 2008/2009 season . He was looked after by the natural track trainer of the International Luge Federation , Karl Flacher from Austria. Flacher himself was a successful natural toboggan runner in the 1970s and trained not only the South Koreans but also athletes from other countries who are not yet established in natural tobogganing.

After the two South Koreans had not yet received a start clearance in the first World Cup race of the 2008/2009 season in St. Sebastian von Flacher, as the risk of injury would have been too great and Lee, unlike his teammate, had not started the second race in Umhausen either he made his World Cup debut on January 25, 2009 in Unterammergau . Immediately ahead of his compatriot, he achieved fourth from last place in 30th place, making him the second South Korean natural track tobogganist to win World Cup points after Yang, who was 37th in Umhausen a week earlier. Lee also took part in the World Cup race in Deutschnofen , where he was only 36th and last. He then started at the 2009 World Cup in Moos in Passeier . Here, however, the two South Koreans were only able to place at the bottom of the field. Lee crossed the finish line 49.45 seconds behind - 4.29 seconds behind his compatriot Yang - as the last of the 37 luge riders. In the winter of 2008/2009 this was his last international race, but unlike Yang, Lee also took part in World Cup races in the 2009/2010 season . After he wasn't there in the first two races in Nowouralsk , he was twice 30th, once 34th and once 37th in the other four races of the season, leaving up to ten tobogganers behind. In the overall World Cup, he reached 40th place out of a total of 59 tobogganists who won World Cup points this winter. Lee also took part in the 2010 European Championship in St. Sebastian, where non-Europeans are also eligible to start, but not entitled to the title. As fourth from bottom he came in 34th place. In the next two years Lee did not take part in any international competitions.
