Lee Roy Murphy

Lee Roy Murphy (born July 16, 1958 in Chicago , USA ) is a retired American boxer and IBF world cruiserweight champion .

Murphy won the Golden Gloves in the light heavyweight division in 1979 with a final victory over Alvino Manson . This win would have allowed him to take part in the Olympic Games in Moscow the following year . However, since the US boycotted, Murphy was not allowed to participate.

His record was 157 to 17.

Professional career

He won his first 20 fights, most of them prematurely. In his 21st fight, in 1984, he boxed Marvin Camel for the IBF world championship belt and defeated him in a 15-round fight in the 14th round by giving up. He defended this title that same year against Eddie Taylor and the following year against Chisanda Mutti.

On April 19, 1986 he defended the title against Dorcy Gaymon and lost it in October of the same year to Rickey Parkey by technical knockout in round 10. Furthermore, he lost in 1987 to Dwight Qawi and in 1989 he beat Alfonso Ratliff .

In 1998 his last fight took place, which he won on points over six rounds.
