Lee Su-jin (born February 9, 1977 ) is a South Korean film director .

Life

Lee began his film career with short films. His film Appa ( 아빠 'Papa') screened at the Busan International Film Festival 2005 and received the Korean Film Archive Award at the Seoul Independent Film Festival . His first feature film, Han Gong-ju , is based on a rape case in the city of Miryang and celebrated its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival 2013. The film received numerous awards in the subsequent festival round, including the main prizes from Marrakech , Rotterdam and Friborg . As a successful independent film, Han Gong-ju was shown in South Korean cinemas on April 17, 2014 and reached 225,839 visitors. Lee received the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards for Best Screenplay and the Blue Dragon Award for Best New Director .

In 2019 he published a political thriller with Idol , which celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale 2019 . For the female lead, he hired Chun Woo-hee again , who became famous through Han Gong-ju .
