Legion was a Spanish thrash metal band from Barcelona that was formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1994.

history

The band was founded in 1986 by singer and bassist Jonathan Dolcet and drummer Josep Segura. Two years later a first demo appeared under the name Lethal Liberty . In the same year, the guitarist Francisco Martínez joined the cast before the debut album, also called Lethal Liberty , was released on GBBS Records in September 1989 . After switching to PDI Records , the Spanish-language EP Por La Cara and the second album Mind Training followed in 1990 , on which a cover version of Queens We Will Rock You can be heard. The following year, the drummer Segura and the guitarist Martinez left the group, after which Julian Ross Loza took over the drums. After the 1992 album Labyrinth of Problems , on which the group Dead or Alive covered by GBH and which was recorded at Morrisound Studios in Tampa , Florida , the group disbanded in 1994. In April 2008, Mind Training with Por La Cara was re-released via Dark Rail Records . In 2012 Josep Segura died of lymph gland cancer at the age of 43 .

style

According to thethrashmetalguide.com , the group is often considered the best Spanish thrash metal band. The first two works are technically somewhat demanding Thrash Metal, with parallels to Accu§er and in faster, better moments also to Toxik's World Circus . In some songs elements from punk were incorporated, which was not uncommon for the bands of the time. Labyrinth of Problems sounds a bit more melodic and modern. classicthrash.com found Lethal Liberty to be a rare specimen of Spanish Thrash Metal, which was unusual for the time. The group hardly deviates from the classic scheme of the genre, except for the fact that they concentrate more on heavy riffs than on pure speed. The singing sounds untrained. On Mind Training you are more uniform, sometimes one-dimensional and sound a little more serious. Otherwise, the differences to the predecessor are not very big.
