history

Originally a Freihof, which in 1737 came into the possession of Joachim Georg Gschwandner. He had it rebuilt and essentially gave it its current appearance, although it was later converted into a Schlössl several times.

Emanuel Schikaneder , librettist of Mozart's “ Die Zauberflöte ”, lived here from 1802 to 1812, and from 1932 to 1944 the operetta composer Franz Lehár , who wrote “Giuditta”, lived here. The salon on the upper floor houses paintings, photos and documents in memory of both artists. There are also numerous memorabilia of Anton Freiherr von Lehár , bearer of the Military Order of Mary Theresa and brother of the composer, who lived here until his death in 1962.
