Lei Jun (simplified Chinese: 雷军; traditional Chinese: 雷軍; pinyin: Léi Jūn; born December 16, 1969 in Xiantao ) is a Chinese entrepreneur. Lei is the founder of Xiaomi , one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers in the world.

Life

Lei was born on December 16, 1969 in Xiantao, Hubei Province . In 1987 he graduated from Mianyang Middle School and attended Wuhan University , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science. He started his first company during his senior year at the university. In 1992, Lei joined the software company Kingsoft as an engineer and became the company's managing director in 1998, leading it to its IPO. On December 20, 2007, he resigned as President and CEO of Kingsoft for health reasons.

On April 6, 2010, Lei Jun founded Xiaomi, a technology company that makes smartphones, mobile apps, and other consumer electronics. Eight years after its founding, the company had risen to become the world's most valuable start-up at the time and went public in 2018.

Political commitment

In the elections for the National People's Congress in December 2012 / January 2013, Lei Jun was elected as a non-party member of parliament in the Beijing constituency and was re-elected for the 13th legislative period in December 2017 / January 2018. There he is primarily committed to the interests of the IT and space industry. For example, in May 2020 at the 3rd plenary meeting of the 13th legislative period, he introduced four legislative proposals to parliament, which aimed at strengthening the satellite-based Internet by removing the hurdles for applying for orbits and frequencies, the use of smartphones for the Alerting natural disasters, recruiting top foreign researchers, etc. He was in line with the economically liberal wing of the CCP; the State Commission for Development and Reform had a very similar program paper (support for commercial space travel, digitization, etc.) discussed and adopted in the further course of the parliamentary session.

Lei Jun is married to Zhang Tong. You have two children.
