Leica SL

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leica SL-System is a mirrorless, digital camera system from Leica Camera AG for the 35mm format. The system was published on October 20, 2015 in Wetzlar. The first camera in this product line is the Leica SL (Type 601) with a 24 megapixel image sensor and an electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 4.4 megapixels. The successor model appeared in November 2019, the SL2 with a 47 megapixel sensor, sensor shift image stabilizer, multishot mode with 187 megapixel resolution and IP54 certification.

L bayonet

The Leica L bayonet was introduced with the Leica T (Type 701) in April 2014. Leica T / TL lenses are designed for APS-C sensors. Leica SL lenses, on the other hand, are designed for sensors in 35mm format. The bayonet interfaces are largely the same. The only difference is an additional, external seal in the SL bayonet. The lenses of the two systems are compatible with each other. When using a T / TL lens, the resolution is reduced to 10 MP (3936 × 2624 pixels) due to the smaller image circle .

In September 2018, Leica formed the L-bayonet alliance together with the Japanese companies Panasonic and Sigma . These two companies also want to offer compatible camera housings and lenses from 2019.

For the L bayonet, adapters from Leica for the M , S and R bayonet are available. There are also adapters from other manufacturers such as Novoflex and Sigma.

SL camera housing

Leica SL (Type 601)

The camera housing was presented on October 20, 2015 at the company headquarters in Wetzlar . The image sensor has an image resolution of 6000 × 4000 pixels and an exposure index of ISO 50 to 50,000. It has a built-in electronic viewfinder with an image resolution of 4.4 million pixels. The maximum frame rate is eleven frames per second.

Tethered shooting

It is possible to remotely control the camera with a computer via the USB port. The Leica Image Shuttle software for Mac and Windows systems is available for this purpose.
