Callitris macleayana is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It is native to eastern Australia.

description

Callitris macleayana grows as an evergreen , upright tree that can reach heights of 30 to 40 meters. The branches are just emerging from the trunk. The fibrous bark is furrowed.

The dark green leaves are 2 to 3 millimeters long. Her back is keeled. Young leaves are 10 to 15 millimeters long, have a pointed tip and often remain on older trees.

The male cones stand individually on the branches and are elongated with a length of up to 8 millimeters. The egg-shaped to conical, female cones stand individually, usually have a blue-green stem and are 2 to 3 centimeters thick. Each cone consists of six or eight thick cone scales and carries a few seeds. After ripening, they remain on the branches for several years before they release the seeds and fall. The chestnut-brown seeds are about 10 millimeters in size and have wings.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Callitris macleayana is disjoint and includes northeast and southeast Queensland and eastern New South Wales . In the north, it extends from the eastern Atherton Tablelands to the Mount Windsor Tablelands . In the south it stretches from southeast Queensland via Byron Bay to Clarencetown .

Callitris macleayana grows mainly in coastal rainforests and on their edges.

Callitris macleayana is classified as "not endangered" in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary.

The wood of callitris macleayana is used. The species is also planted as an ornamental wood.

Systematics

It was first described as Octoclinis macleayana in 1857 by Ferdinand von Mueller in Transactions and Proceedings of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria , Volume 2, page 22. Ferdinand von Mueller transferred the species in 1860 in Essay on the plants collected by Mr. Eugene Fitzalan, during Lieut. Smith's expedition to the estuary of the Burdekin , page 17 as Callitris macleayana in the genus Callitris . A synonym for Callitris macleayana (F. Muell.) F. Muell. is Leichhardtia macleayana (F. Muell.) Gordon .
