The citharidae (Citharidae) ( Lat . Cithara = zither ) are a family of flatfish (Pleuronectiformes). They live in the Mediterranean , Indian Ocean and the western Pacific from Japan to Australia .

features

The species of the family reach lengths of 14 to 36 centimeters. Their uniform ventral fins are supported by a fin spine and five soft rays. They have a short fin base. The pectoral fins are well developed. The beginning of the dorsal fin is at the level of the posterior nostril on the blind side. The anus is on the side of the eye. The gill trap rays have not grown together at the base. A lateral line organ is present on both sides.
