After the local elections on March 27, 2011 in Hesse, Blum is again a member of the city council as a city councilor.

In the state election on January 27, 2008, he ran in the constituency of Darmstadt-Stadt II and was elected to the state parliament via the state list. Leif Blum represented the parliamentary group as financial and legal policy spokesman in the budget and legal committee of the Hessian state parliament. In the new election to the Hessian state parliament on January 18, 2009, he was re-elected to the state parliament via the state list. Blum was parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament and financial policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group until he resigned both posts in March 2012 due to investigations into suspected tax evasion against him. Since February 11, 2010, Leif Blum has been chairman of the committee of inquiry to investigate the so-called tax investigator affair . Leif Blum has also suspended the chairmanship since December 9, 2011 due to investigations into suspected tax evasion against him and resigned it at the beginning of 2012.

For the following legislative period in Hesse, he announced that he would resign from his state parliament mandate, which he did in 2014. However, in 2014 he was re-elected chairman of the Darmstadt district association.

He is currently Head of Public Affairs & Government Relations in Munich.

Investigations into tax evasion

According to the Darmstadt public prosecutor's office, Blum is suspected of having submitted false tax returns for several years as managing director of PDGaus Programmier- und Daten-Service GmbH in Ober-Ramstadt . Among other things, the company may have paid too little sales tax, according to the investigators. Services provided were not specified and tax billed, said the public prosecutor's office, which, according to its own statements, had searched Blum's private rooms and the offices of the Ober-Ramstadt-based company “without prior notice”.

On March 14, 2012, Blum therefore resigned from his position as parliamentary group leader of the FDP parliamentary group. He also resigned as the parliamentary group's tax and financial policy spokesman, but remains a member of the state parliament. The FDP Darmstadt had previously canceled a general meeting at which Blum wanted to be re-elected as district chairman. In the meantime, Blum has declared that he will not run for the Hessian state parliament again.

In March 2013, the main committee of the Hessian state parliament recommended that Blum's political immunity be lifted. On March 27, 2013, the public prosecutor's office filed an application with the Darmstadt District Court to warn Blum for tax evasion with punishment reserved. As a result, Blum was sentenced to a fine with reservation of punishment and a fine in the course of a criminal order for reducing taxes.
