history
The field name Leimenberg refers to a clay pit developed here as the basis for the pottery and brickworkers. About the glues Berg led a old route, led by the High sun on Rennsteig branching, on Rothenhof in Eisenach as "Wine Route" by the leader, after passage of Hörsel ascending at Mutton mountain to then glues mountain after Großenlupnitz and continue towards Great Behringen and Langensalza to reach. At the top of the hill is the blown up ruin of a small shelter for the Eisenach air defense forces built during World War II .
Today a cycle path leads over the Leimenberg from Wutha-Farnroda to Stockhausen and on towards the Hainich National Park . The forested and remote Leimenberg is part of the nature conservation project “Wildcat Corridor” with the Hörselberg mountains to the east.
