The Leineinsel Döhren is a river island of the Leine in the Döhren district of the city of Hanover . It is located west of the old village center of Döhren on the right bank of the Leine. Today there is a housing estate with around 1000 apartments on the island.

history

In 1402, the Döhrener Mühle was first mentioned as an undershot water mill on the Leine Island. The lands and buildings on the island belonged to the mill. In 1652 the Hanoverian merchant Johann Duve bought the island and in 1667 built a weir system in the river for the first time to regulate the flow of water to the mill. In 1703 the city of Hanover acquired the island, which it sold to the mill leaseholder Carl Georg Fiedeler in 1850 . In 1872 Fiedeler sold the island to the Döhrener wool laundry and combing , whose first factory buildings were built in 1868. The mill buildings on the island were demolished and the wool laundry industrial complex was built. After its closure in 1972 and the subsequent liquidation of the company, the factory buildings were demolished in the 1970s.

After the acquisition of the premises by the housing company Neue Heimat , the Leineinsel was built on in the 1980s with predominantly four-story apartment buildings for high and medium-sized demands. Green areas and wet areas have been created that symbolize the character of life by the water, for example an indoor pond with reed areas.
