Carthusians lived there from 1204 to 1946 and Cistercians from 1947 to 2017 . The familiar designation as a Charterhouse (“Certosa di Trisulti”) also remained common after the Cistercians had moved into the monastery.
The Charterhouse is located 850 m above sea level in an oak forest of the Ciociaria .
history
In 996, Dominic of Sora founded the Benedictine monastery Trisulti fifteen kilometers north of Frosinone ; In 1204 it was taken over by the Carthusians and rebuilt.
Since 1873, the place bears the title " National Monument of Italy".
In 1947 the Cistercians of the Casamari Monastery settled the buildings abandoned by the Carthusians in the form of a priory . In 2017 the Cistercians had to give up the Charterhouse due to a lack of young people; in the end only one monk had lived there, so that a Vita communis as a convent was no longer possible.
2018 the Charterhouse after approval by the Ministry of Culture in was Cabinet Contender for € 100,000 lease / year to the right-wing think tank " Dignitatis Humanae Institute rents" (DHI), which plans to open a training center there. The right-wing American publicist and former Trump adviser Stephen Bannon wanted to set up a cadre forge for nationalist-minded politicians there. In October 2019, the Italian minister of culture, Dario Franceschini, withdrew the license to use the abbey buildings from the sponsoring organization “Dignitatis Humanae Institute”. The sponsoring association sued against this and won in the first and second instance .
