Dignitatis Humanae Institute

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dignitatis Humanae Institute (DHI) is a think tank that claims to promote the preservation of human dignity "on the basis of the knowledge that man is created in the image of God " . The organization is based in Rome . The institute is considered authoritarian and right-wing conservative. He is accused of spreading anti- Semitic and anti-Islamic ideas.

Purpose and derivation of the name

The think tank sees itself as a response to a possible secularist intolerance towards Christians of all denominations , which has led to a large number of attacks on human dignity. Its name is derived from the declaration of the Second Vatican Council on religious freedom, Dignitatis humanae ("dignity of man"), which Pope Paul VI. promulgated on December 7, 1965 . The main content of the declaration is the general foundation of religious freedom and its consideration in the light of revelation.

history

The organization was founded on December 8th, 2008 in Brussels by Benjamin Harnwell together with Nirj Deva , a member of the EU Parliament . It later moved to Rome.

Harnwell is close to the right-wing US publicist and former Trump adviser Stephen Bannon . The impetus for founding the DHI is said to have been given by the failed application of the Italian politician Rocco Buttiglione for the EU Commission . Buttiglione was proposed in 2004 as European Minister in Silvio Berlusconi's cabinet by the Italian government as Vice-President of the Commission. In a hearing in the EU Parliament, he took the view that homosexuality was “a sign of moral disorder” and that the main purpose of the family was to enable women to have children in a protected space. This provoked so much protest that Buttiglione renounced his candidacy. Buttiglione's supporters objected that he had only represented the teaching of the Catholic Church and was now condemned by the secular public.

Trisulti Charterhouse

At the beginning of 2018, after the approval of the Italian Ministry of Culture, under the MoVimento 5 -stelle politician Alberto Bonisoli (in the Conte cabinet ), the historic medieval Trisulti Carthusian monastery (since 1873 " National Monument ") designated as "one of the most beautiful places in Italy" for Take over € 100,000.00 / year lease as a further education, training and event facility as well as study center; Stephen Bannon, mentioned above, wanted to establish a cadre forge for nationalist -minded and oriented politicians. The graduates should be in the media , in political campaigns or as executives in government work. ( -> " Conservative Revolution " ) Benjamin Harnwell, also mentioned above, explained that the new institute would represent "half medieval campus , half gladiator school " and the "spiritual home of Bannon's ideas".

In May 2019, the Italian Ministry of Culture initiated proceedings to withdraw the lease because of the "breach of contractual obligations". According to a report, Dignitatis Humanae is accused, among other things, of having submitted a falsified opinion on the financing plan. Minister of Education Bonisoli confirmed on June 19, 2019 that the license for the abbey would be withdrawn from the sponsoring association and given elsewhere.
