Leipzig commentary
The Leipzig Commentary is a legal commentary on the German Criminal Code and the International Criminal Code and is published by the Berlin publisher Walter de Gruyter .
First edition
The comment was initiated in May 1916 as a single volume work by that time in Leipzig resident, the Supreme Court make lawyers Ludwig Ebermayer ( Reichsgerichtsrat , senior prosecutor and an honorary professor at the University of Leipzig ), Adolf Lobe (Senate President at the Supreme Court) and Werner Rosenberg (Reichsgerichtsrat). Due to the place of the first appearance, the name "Leipziger Commentary" arose, although the original title was "Reichs-Strafgesetzbuch: with special consideration of the case law of the Reichsgericht". Due to the chaos of the First World War and the resulting lack of materials, the first edition was not delivered until December 1919.
Development until today
The depth and detail of the presentation of the work, which has grown into a multi-volume commentary over the past decades, mean that an edition takes several years to complete.
The 11th edition began in 1992 and was only completed in 2006. It comprises nine volumes with a total of over 11,000 pages. The 12th edition, which began in the same year, comprises thirteen volumes and was completed in November 2019.
The 13th edition started in May 2019. Twenty volumes are planned for them.
meaning
The Commentary is considered to be the traditional large-scale commentary on the Criminal Code with the most comprehensive and complete representation of applicable criminal law. Thanks to its detail and well-foundedness, the work is considered to be the largest commentary on German (material) criminal law, alongside the Munich Commentary on the Criminal Code ( Verlag CH Beck ) and the Systematic Commentary ( Luchterhand Fachverlag ).
