Lembit Lõhmus (born on 25. September 1947 in Mustla , rural community Tarvastu , Viljandi County ) is an Estonian graphic artist , wood carver , engraver and medalist , who along with numerous designs for stamps of different states, the Estonian euro coins designed.

From 1969 to 1975 Lembit Lõhmus studied graphic design at the Tartu Art School in Tartu and the Estonian Art Academy in Tallinn . He then worked until 1977 as head of the applied arts department at the Eesti Kunstimuuseum . This was followed by work as an interior designer at the state design institute Eesti Projekt and the municipal building administration until 1988 . Between 1989 and 2003 Lõhmus worked as a freelance graphic designer. This was followed by a position at the Eesti Post until his retirement in 2010 , where he was involved in the design of postage stamps and philatelic products. Since then he has been working as a freelance graphic artist again.

Lembit Lõhmus' work includes more than 500 works. This includes a large number of woodcuts , copperplate engravings and steel engravings in the form of bookplates , for which Lõhmus has received many awards. Lõhmus designed more than 200 stamps for six countries - the Soviet Union , Estonia , Sweden , Latvia , Lithuania and Kazakhstan . His most widespread work are the Estonian euro coins that have been in circulation since 2011 with the map outline of the country as a motif.

Since 1987 Lõhmus' work has been presented in more than 30 exhibitions. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the Estonian National Museum in Tartu held the solo exhibition Mente et manu in 2017 .
