Pedro Lemebel (born November 21, 1952 in Santiago de Chile , † January 23, 2015 ) was a Chilean theater artist and writer.

Life

Lemebel grew up in simple circumstances. He studied fine arts at the Universidad de Chile and worked as a teacher for two years until he was dismissed in 1982 because of his homosexuality . In 1987 Lemebel founded the performance group “Mares of the Apocalypse”. In the following years he worked as a co-author of the satirical magazine The Clinic . In 2006 Lemebel was awarded the Anna Seghers Prize .
