Lemuel Todd

Lemuel Todd (born July 29, 1817 in Carlisle , Pennsylvania , †  May 12, 1891 there ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 and again from 1873 to 1875 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lemuel Todd received a good primary education. In 1839 he graduated from Dickinson College in his hometown of Carlisle. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1841, he began to work there in his profession. He later became a member of the Republican Party founded in 1854 . In the congressional election of 1854 , Todd was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Carlton Brandaga Curtis on March 4, 1855 . Since he was not confirmed in 1856, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1857 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

Todd served as a major in the Union Army during the Civil War . He then served as Inspector General of Pennsylvania on the governor's staff . In the elections of 1872 Todd was re-elected to Congress in a state-wide district of Pennsylvania, where he was able to complete another term between March 4, 1873 and March 3, 1875. In 1874 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Lemuel Todd practiced law again. He died on May 12, 1891 in Carlisle, where he was buried.
