Leonard Kevin Bias (born November 18, 1963 in Landover , Maryland , † June 19, 1986 in College Park , Maryland) was an American basketball player . He was considered a very talented player and attended the University of Maryland , where he was named All-American and ACC Player of the Year and attracted comparisons with Michael Jordan .

Bias was selected second in the 1986 NBA Draft by then-NBA champions Boston Celtics . Before the draft, Gerald Henderson handed them over to Seattle SuperSonics in order to be able to select bias in the draft. Less than two days later, Bias died of a cocaine overdose .
