history

In 1910, the Jewish previous owners Max Katz, Gustav Falk and Ludwig Stern founded the Alsberg department store in Osnabrück . The department store was " aryanized " in November 1935 and was run by the merchants Friedrich Lengermann and Alfred Trieschmann as the Lengermann + Trieschmann clothing store. At the time of "Aryanization" it had 151 employees, including eight Jews. When it opened, it had a sales area of 3,500 m². Under the Restitution Act introduced in 1949, Friedrich Lengermann and Alfred Trieschmann made reparation payments to the previous owners. Klaus and Dieter Rauschen maintained contact with Ralph Stern, Ludwig Stern's son, for a long time. He visited the L&T fashion house in 1984.

During the Second World War , the fashion house was completely destroyed by a bomb attack on Osnabrück on the night of June 19-20, 1942 . In the following years Lengermann and Trieschmann rented alternative sales outlets and warehouses in different parts of the city. These too were partially destroyed or damaged by bombing.

After the end of the war, a new building was built in 1948, initially intended as a temporary measure. The building was gradually increased in the following years. In 1952 a floor was added to the building, where women’s clothing was sold, and in 1953 another floor was added to house the men's clothing department. The sales area of 4,400 m² was considered a small sensation at the time. In 1955 an extension was completed, which the Osnabrück press praised as "modern, attractive, metropolitan, representative".

Company co-founder Alfred Trieschmann died in 1959 at the age of 62. Trieschmann's grandson Dieter Rauschen succeeded him in 1964, followed by his twin brother Klaus Rauschen in 1968.

In 1970/1971 an extensive renovation with extensions was tackled. For this, the company bought surrounding land. In 1981 the first construction phase for an underground car park with 100 parking spaces began. After another renovation, the sales area expanded to 7,500 m². The underground car park was enlarged to 250 spaces in 1987; after further renovations, the sales area was 10,500 m².

In 2006 the fashion house expanded again, this time to an area of more than 20,000 m². Since then, the center of the house has been an atrium of around 400 m².

In the following two years, L&T acquired various buildings behind the main building on Grosse Strasse, including the building that housed the Brinkmann electrical specialist store until it was closed. These buildings were demolished and gave way, among other things, to the extension of the parking garage, as well as restaurants and retail stores. The multi-storey car park can be reached via Möserstraße and is connected underground to the old underground car park under the main building. Together, the multi-storey car park and underground car park have had around 480 parking spaces.

In 2016, the former Wilhelmstift school on Herrenteichsstraße was demolished, and the sports store was built on the area directly on the Hase by 2018 .

Sales areas

Entrance to the market hall on Grosse Strasse

L&T currently has women's, men's and children's fashion, underwear, textiles, accessories and luggage departments. There is also the sports department in the sports store, the SYGN department for “young fashion”, the gastronomy including the market hall and customer service. With over 20,000 m², which is more than three football fields, it is not only the largest fashion house in Northern Germany, but also one of the largest owner-managed fashion houses in Europe. The range includes around 500 different fashion brands, 120 of which offer their goods as shop in the shop . As external shops outside the fashion house, there are two separate boutiques for women and men in large sizes ( XXL + T and curve queen ) as well as an outlet store.

L&T sports store

In the L&T Sporthaus , which opened in March 2018, sportswear and equipment are offered on five floors with a total of approx. 5,000 m² of retail space. The building attached to the fashion house also includes the City Gym . As a special feature, there is a wave pool with an artificial standing wave for indoor surfing under the name Hasewelle . Covered, the wave pool serves as a playing field or event area. The sports store can be reached via the fashion store and Herrenteichsstrasse.

L&T market hall

The L&T market hall , which opened in 2007, offers something from regional restaurateurs and delicatessens on around 1,600 m². It can be compared to a food court . In 2018 the market hall was rebuilt. The originally Mediterranean design gave way to an urban, industrial style. Since the renovation, the culinary offer has also concentrated more than before on gastronomy and less on the sale of delicatessen products. The market hall can be reached via the fashion house as well as via Große Straße and Herrenteichsstraße.
