Lennart Daléus (born June 25, 1946 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish politician .

biography

Daléus began his political engagement in the environmental movement and in 1971 was one of the co-founders of Friends of the Earth in Sweden. He was also one of the main opponents of Sweden's nuclear industry .

In 1980 he became a member of the Centerpartiet and was first elected a member of the Reichstag as its representative in the elections on September 15, 1991 . During this time he was among other things from 1994 to 1998 chairman of the committee for agriculture as well as chairman of the eco-cyclical government delegation for the development of an eco-cyclical concept for Sweden.

In June 1998 he was elected to succeed Olof Johansson as chairman of the Centerpartiet, making him the top candidate in the 1998 Reichstag election . In this election, however, the Centerpartiet lost 2.52 percentage points and nine of their previous 27 mandates. In January 2001 he resigned as party leader and was replaced by Maud Olofsson . From 2002 to August 2008 Daléus was Secretary General of Greenpeace in Sweden.
