The Lenord, Bauer & Co. GmbH is a German company for automation technology and a world leader in development and production of magnetic speed sensors for high-speed spindles. It was founded in 1965 by Horst Lenord, Günther Bauer, Hans Look and Dieter Westerhoff.

Since it was founded in 1965, the company has developed from a provider of customer-specific special devices to a specialist in the field of motion sensors and integrated drive technology. In particular, the use of GMR and AMR sensors has led to development cooperation with universities, technical colleges and research institutes.

history

Founded in 1965, Lenord + Bauer has been manufacturing compact industrial controls as customer-specific solutions since 1969. Four years later, in 1973, the company began selling its first products for the industrial market. With twelve employees at the time, they moved into their own company building. In the following years Lenord + Bauer expanded further. In 1984 further developed compact controls were introduced on the market. The building had to be expanded with 45 employees. During this time, the development of electronic counters and the first magnetic incremental rotary encoder available on the market took place, which were delivered in 1986. In 1993 the portfolio was expanded to include miniaturized built-in rotary encoders . With a workforce of over 100 employees, another building expansion followed. In 1996 there was a change in management for the first time in the company's history. With Hans-Georg Wilk, a long-time employee of Lenord + Bauer took over the management . Technical development work continued. In 1997, cam functions were integrated into Lenord + Bauer controls and in 2001 sensor elements were developed. The third company expansion followed in the same year. At the beginning of 2012, Lenord + Bauer moved into a new, 5,500 m² production and logistics center in neighboring Gladbeck. Administration as well as research and development remained in Oberhausen. In mid-2012, Hans-Georg Wilk left the management of Lenord, Bauer & Co. GmbH. In 2013, Dr. Matthias Lenord joins the operative business at Lenord + Bauer. In 2020 the company appointed Dr. Rudo Grimm as chairman of the management.

Innovation leadership

In 2005, the field plate previously used in sensor technology was replaced by GMR sensor elements, for which Lenord + Bauer received the 2005 Innovation Award from Zenit eV .

With the GEL 235, the world's first absolute encoder was brought onto the market in 2007 that is equipped with GMR sensor elements based on the Nonius evaluation. This technology enables the GEL 235 to achieve a singleturn resolution of 16 bits and an accuracy of better than 0.1 °. For the sensor, Lenord + Bauer was awarded the 2007 Industry Prize from Initiative Mittelstand in the mechanical engineering category.

Product lines and market leadership

Lenord + Bauer sells sensors based on the magnetic measuring principle, controls and positioning drives . The company's products are used in various industrial and technical environments, for example in ICE trains, in packaging machines or in wind turbines .

Lenord + Bauer has a global market share of around 80% in the field of speed sensors for high-speed spindles .

engagement

In 2006 Lenord + Bauer was included in the list of "Top Employers in Germany 2006" and took 4th place in the area of work-life balance .

Lenord + Bauer supports the "Company School" project in Oberhausen, which was launched in 2004 and aims to improve contact between schools and companies. In cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf Vocational College in Essen, Lenord + Bauer awards final projects to participants in the technical training.

From 2005, Lenord + Bauer organized the international school competition “Innovative Ideas Move Europe” together with the Science on Stage Deutschland eV association. In 2007, the competition was awarded the special prize of the "Future through Innovation.NRW" initiative from the Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2010 the competition was organized together with the UVRN Entrepreneurs' Association Ruhr-Niederrhein and in 2012 it was renamed "Schüler macht MI (N) T". In 2016, Lenord + Bauer left the event.

Lenord + Bauer uses a quality management and environmental management system certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 , which is regularly checked by external experts . Lenord + Bauer has been certified with the IRIS standard (railway standard) since 2008 .
