Leo Arnold

Leo Arnold (born December 17, 1923 in Altdorf UR ; † May 16, 2014 ibid) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ). He represented the canton of Uri in the Council of States from 1971 to 1987 .

biography

Leo Arnold was born as the son of Alois and Josefa Arnold in Altdorf UR. In 1949 he became the lawyer doctorate and then worked as a lawyer and notary in private practice. From 1952 to 1975 he served part-time as the Uri Deputy Prosecutor and then presided over the Supreme Court until 1991. He is considered to be the creator of Uri's first code of criminal procedure. For many years he was also the president of the Uri Corporation (1967 to 1983), which was given its own administrative building under his leadership. The corporation's participation in the Wassen and Altdorf homes for the elderly as well as the renewal of the hydropower concession are also considered achievements of Arnold.

Leo Arnold was married twice and had two children.

Political offices

In 1960 Leo Arnold was elected to the Uri canton parliament, the district administrator (until 1972). Between 1964 and 1967 he also served as mayor of Altdorf UR. In 1971, the people of Uri elected Arnold as Council of States. Among other things, he was president of the finance delegation of both councils. He held the post of cantonal representative at federal level until 1987. Leo Arnold was a member of the Christian Democratic Party (CVP).
