Leo Joseph "Budd" Goodwin (born November 13, 1883 in New York ; † May 25, 1957 ibid) was an American swimmer and water polo player.
Goodwin was a member of the New York Athletic Club and started for this at the 1904 Olympic Games in several swimming disciplines. He took part in the diving discipline head long jump, which was about jumping into the water and then diving as far as possible. Goodwin took third place and the bronze medal. Together with his teammates from the New York Athletic Club David Bratton , George van Cleaf , Louis Handley , David Hesser , Joseph Ruddy and James Steen , he competed in the water polo tournament, in which they beat the US team from the Chicago Athletic Club 6-0 won and took the gold medal. Goodwin also won the gold medal with the 4 × 50-yard relay. He also took part in three individual freestyle disciplines, but could not place anywhere.
At the Olympic Games in 1908, he could no longer take part in the extent that he had done four years earlier. Goodwin fell ill with blood poisoning in 1906 in which he nearly lost an arm. Nevertheless, he still took part in the 400 m freestyle and with the 4 × 200 m relay, with which he even won a bronze medal.
In 1971 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame .
