Joseph Aloysius Ruddy senior (born September 28, 1878 in New York City , † November 11, 1962 in Far Rockaway , New York City) was an American swimmer and water polo player.
At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, Ruddy and his club New York Athletic Club took part in the water polo tournament, where he and his teammates David Bratton , Leo Goodwin , George van Cleaf , David Hesser , Louis Handley and James Steen against the US American team from the Chicago Athletic Club won 6-0 and took the gold medal. He was also a member of the 4 × 50-yard relay, which also won the gold medal in freestyle.
Two of his sons, Ray Ruddy and Steve Ruddy, later also took part in the Olympic Games as swimmers.
