Leo Leux

Leo Leux (born March 7, 1893 in Munich , † September 8, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German composer who was mainly known for film music .

Life and work

Gottlieb Wilhelm Leuchs , as the artist's real name was called, worked as Kapellmeister in various German cities and towns after his participation in the First World War in 1918, known among others in Cannstatt , before he received some attention at the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin . He also had a few minor roles as an actor in black and white films such as The Sunny Fairy Tale of Luck (1924), The Purple Hell (1920) and The Servant of the Lord Baron (1919) and wrote the music for Hans' dance duet in 1920 H. Zerletts I know a small hallway for the operetta sketch The Lord from Next Door .

In Berlin, Leux composed and conducted for various revues and had great success with the revue Gruß an alle, composed in 1927 . Pop tunes in the Charleston or Foxtrot rhythm aroused the interest of the film industry. He created his first film music in 1930 for the comedy Susanne machtordnung .

The musical accompaniment of the crime film Truxa (1937) and especially The Stars Shine (1938) confirmed his talent.

After the war he moved to Charlottenburg and finally died after completing his last work, the film music for the Torreani film . In 1958 he was briefly in the semi-documentary film That was only seen once .

His grave is in the St. Annen Dahlem cemetery .
