List of dances

The Foxtrott (English spelling Foxtrot , Fuchs transition ') is a company dance , which is danced in pairs and the standard dances of the world dance program belongs.

history

The foxtrot was created between 1910 and 1915 in North America. Both the dance roots and the origin of the name cannot be clearly determined, as numerous sources clearly contradict each other.

The foxtrot took up elements of ragtime , one step , two step and the Castle Walk choreographed by Vernon and Irene Castle . The name Foxtrot possibly goes back to the actor Harry Fox, who took steps from Onestep and Castle Walk for his then popular variety show “Harry Fox & the Ziegfeld Follies” . Fox thus spread this dance to the public. The foxtrot has become synonymous with a series of walking and striding dances, most of which no longer exist.

The foxtrot only came to Europe after the First World War . In 1920 the existing step material was arranged for the first time at a conference in England. Since 1924 a distinction has been made between the slow variant, the Slowfox and the faster Quickstepp . The foxtrot was included in the world dance program in 1963, but it was never used as a tournament dance in Europe.

technology

While Slowfox and Quickstepp are technically very demanding, the Foxtrot is quite uncomplicated. The steps are taken normally, special postures, poses or difficult figures are not provided; only the "jumping up and down" - especially of the head - should be avoided during the quick side steps.

Rhythm and music

The foxtrot is danced to music in 4/4 time , with a complete basic step comprising six beats and thus one and a half bars. As a result, the basic step is offset in time with respect to the beat, as is also the case with the descendant Discofox . The speed is possible within a wide range.

The foxtrot is traditionally danced to pop music, but is particularly popular in dance schools because it can also be danced well to hip-hop music.

Men's steps:

  1. The gentleman starts with a longer step of the left foot forward.
  2. Then he takes another step forward with his right foot.
  3. and 4. Now follows the “since the end”, in which the gentleman takes a small step to the left with his left foot and places the right foot next to the left.
  4. Now a long step backwards with the left foot follows,
  5. followed by a long step backwards with your right foot.
  6. and 8. Now there is another “since the end”, in which the gentleman puts the left foot a little to the left and positions the right foot again next to the left.
  7. Now you start again at step 1.

Ladies steps:

  1. The lady starts with a longer step of the right foot backwards.
  2. She then takes another step back with her left foot.
  3. and 4. Now follows the “since the end”, in which the lady takes a small step to the right with her right foot and places her left foot next to the right one.
  4. Now a long step forward with the right foot follows,
  5. followed by a long step forward with your left foot.
  6. and 8. Now there is another “since the end”, in which the lady moves her right foot a little to the right and positions the left foot next to the right one again.
  7. Now you start again at step 1.

The “since the end” part is generally carried out twice as fast as the remaining steps.
