Leo McFall
Leo MacFall (* 1981 in London ) is a British conductor .
biography
McFall played the piano and viola from childhood. After studying music at Oxford University , he studied conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Leif Segerstam and at the University of the Arts in Zurich with Professor Johannes Schlaefli. During his stay in Finland he founded his own ensemble and continued to lead the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra. From 2005 to 2012 Mcfall was assistant to the Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink , with whom he worked with the Vienna Philharmonic , the European Union Youth Orchestra and theChicago Symphony Orchestra made a guest appearance. Since 2009 he has received funding from the Conductors' Forum . He also worked extensively at the Glyndebourne Festival .
From the 2012/13 season Leo McFall was 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director Philippe Bach at the Meininger Hofkapelle , which is affiliated with the South Thuringian State Theater in Meiningen . Since 2013 he has also been assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in Vienna . In 2015 he ended his contract with the Meininger Hofkapelle, where he was most recently the musical director of Verdi's La traviata . McFall has been a freelance conductor ever since.
In 2015 Leo McFall won the German Conductor Prize, which is awarded by the German Music Council .
