Leon Garfield
Leon Garfield (born July 14, 1921 in Brighton , Sussex , England , † June 2, 1996 in London ) was a British writer and screenwriter .
Life
Garfield studied art in his youth , which was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. He served in the British Army Medical Corps, was stationed in Belgium , where he met Vivien Alcock , whom he later married. She also became a children's book author . After the war, Garfield worked as a technician in a laboratory for Biochemistry at a London hospital and wrote in his spare books. In the 1960s he became so successful that he started his own business.
Garfield wrote several scripts for Shakespeare animated films. Garfield's first book, the pirate story Jack Holborn , was published in 1964.

Film adaptations
Devil-in-the-Fog was made into a film for television. Black Jack was made into a film by Ken Loach in 1968 .
