Leon Sametini

Leon Sametini (born March 16, 1886 in Rotterdam , † August 20, 1944 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ) was an American violinist and music teacher of Dutch origin.

Sametini studied violin with Bram Eldering , Otakar Ševčík and Eugène Ysaÿe . As a violin virtuoso, he was best known in Europe through concert tours in the Netherlands, Belgium, England and Austria. Queen Wilhelmina gave him a violin made by the Venetian violin maker Sanctus Seraphin . He later lived in Chicago, where he headed the music department of the Chicago Music College . His students included Harry Adaskin , Oliver Colbentson , George Perlman , Aaron Rosand , Silvestre Revueltas and Guila Bustabo . In the 1940s, chamber music greats such as Jascha Heifetz , Mischa Elman , Eugène Ysaÿe, Georges Enesco , Bronisław Huberman , Efrem Zimbalist , Joseph Szigeti , Pablo Casals and Fritz Kreisler met in his apartment in Chicago .
