Leonard John Daventry (born March 7, 1915 in London ; died 1987 there ) was a British science fiction writer.

Life

Daventry was the son of Leonard Daventry, captain in the British Army, and Dora Daventry, née Davis. Daventry also became a soldier in 1932 and served in Malta from 1936 to 1940 . In 1941 he married Margaret Alexander, with whom he had two children. The son, born in 1946, died after a long illness in 1967 at the age of 21. After his time as a soldier, he worked in various professions, including being a truck driver and greengrocer. Most recently he was a street musician. He wrote: “The long and slow death of my son changed my personality. I no longer have any inclination to write, neither for money nor for fame, and I feel completely unable to spin out any fantasies. "

His first novel A Man of Double Deed (German Mr. Coman to the power of 3 ) was published in 1964, the first volume of a trilogy about the protagonist Claus Coman, a natural telepath . The following two novels, Reflections in a Mirage and The Ticking is in Your Head , were first published in one volume by Doubleday and shortly thereafter in separate editions by Curtis Books . The world of the year 2090 described in Mr. Coman to the power of 3 is directed by a world council that is confronted with the problem of an epidemic of senseless violence among young people. One of the possible solutions is the establishment of an (extra-planetary) "war section" where the juvenile delinquents would be deported. Various groups are trying to influence the World Council, including the "liaison men", a group of telepaths who can use the "connector" to communicate telepathically with each other worldwide and who can also take in impressions from the global consciousness of humanity. In English, the liaison men are called Keymen , which is why the trilogy is also known as the Keymen cycle. Coman is now given the task of blocking the influence of another group that wants to prevent the establishment of a war section, which he succeeds after some difficulties.

Three of Daventry's books have been translated into German, and there are also French, Italian and Dutch translations. In addition to his science fiction, he wrote two other novels under the pseudonym Martin Alexander in 1969 and 1970.
