Leonhard Günther Hoppe

Leonhard Günther Hoppe (* 1923 in Hilden ; † 1986 there ) was a German trade unionist and labor law expert. He has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . His life gives an insight into the diverse and committed activities of a union official at the time.

His son is the Eastern Europe specialist Hans-Joachim Hoppe .

Career

After his school and apprenticeship, he worked from 1948 during the reconstruction period after the Second World War in Düsseldorf as a secretary for the German Federation of Trade Unions , North Rhine-Westphalia region. In the legal department of the DGB he dealt with the regulation of labor disputes and labor law problems. With his specialist knowledge and tactical instinct, he knew how to defend the interests of his clients in negotiations with employers. In 1967 he became department head of the section for labor and social law, for labor administration and social policy.

He contributed his experience and knowledge of social law and social policy by participating in numerous state and federal bodies in the legal system and the labor administration . Since 1961 he has also worked as an honorary judge at the Finance Court in Düsseldorf and since 1967 at the State Labor Court in Düsseldorf . He was also a member of the administrative committee of the state employment office. Since 1972, he has acted as chairman of the committee, alternating annually with the representative of the social partners. He was also a member of the German Social Court Association and the German Labor Court Association . He was a member of specialist committees at what was then the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, today the Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and of sub-committees of the administrative committee of the State Labor Office in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Honors

On April 27, 1978, the then 55-year-old trade unionist Hoppe was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services in the social and work area. At the presentation of the medal , State Secretary Paul Arnold Nelles, on behalf of Federal President Walter Scheel, paid tribute to his services with the words: “His keen sense of law and his committed appearance as a litigator have contributed to the fact that labor jurisdiction has become a cornerstone of our legal structure is. ". At the end of his tenure, Hoppe received a certificate of honor for 40 years of membership in the SPD Hilden. The chairman of the local association at that time, Hans-Günter Eckerth, emphasized his services to the rights and concerns of employees in his laudation.
