Leonhard Heckenauer

Leonhard Heckenauer (* 1655 in Augsburg , † 1704 in Munich ) was a German engraver .

Life

Leonhard Heckenauer was a copper engraver in Augsburg. He learned from Bartholomäus Kilian and made, among other things, portraits of Emperor Leopold I and the electors present when he was elected . He set up a drawing academy in his house where figures were drawn from life and died in Munich in 1704 when Augsburg was besieged by the French and Bavaria.

His brother Jakob Wilhelm Heckenauer was a copper engraver as well as a good draftsman. At first he worked in Berlin, where he etched the royal palace there on ten plates based on Paul Decker's drawings, later he came to Braunschweig as a ducal court engraver, where he engraved several paintings from the gallery and the Salzdahlum pleasure palace in copper.
