Leonhard Weber (physicist)

Joachim Leonhard Weber (born April 30, 1848 in Rostock , † April 24, 1919 in Kiel ) was a German physicist .

Life

Weber studied physics at the universities of Leipzig, Rostock and Kiel. During his studies in Heidelberg in 1870 he became a member of the Frankonia Heidelberg fraternity . From 1875 to 1876 he worked at the Thomas School in Leipzig . From 1876 he was assistant to Gustav Karsten in Kiel. He received his doctorate in 1877 and qualified as a professor in 1878. He was a full professor of theoretical physics at the University of Breslau and the University of Kiel . He was also director of the Physics Institute in Kiel. He first succeeded in breaking up the lightning bolt into individual discharges.
