Leonid Viktorovich Afanassjew

Leonid Wiktorowitsch Afanassjew ( Russian Леони́д Ви́кторович Афана́сьев ; born August 20, 1921 in Tomsk , Siberia ; † October 5, 1995 in Moscow ) was a Soviet composer .

Life

Leonid Viktorovich Afanassiev's mother was a piano teacher. After graduating from school in 1939, he trained as a pilot in Orenburg at the Air Force Academy there in 1940 and then served from 1943 to 1945 in World War II , where he became the commander of his own squadron and flew 116 combat missions. Seriously injured, he was released from military service and studied music from 1946 to 1951 at the Kazakh National Conservatory with Yevgeny Brusilovsky (1905–1981). He completed his master class from 1951 to 1952 at the Moscow Conservatory with Aram Chatschaturjan .

During his musician career, he was active as a songwriter and began composing film scores from 1956, including His First Concert , It Happened in the Enlightenment and You Will See Heaven, too . For his work he was awarded the RSFSR People's Artist in 1986 and the Stalin Prize in 1952 for his first violin concerto .
