history

Born in 1882 in Nigdi, Anatolia , Leonidas Kestekides made a living with the sale of granita , a type of sorbet, and other sweets with his brother Avraam. In 1900 he decided to emigrate to the USA, where he became a pastry chef . In 1910 he traveled with the Greek delegation to the world exhibition in Brussels . He presented his confectionery and confectionery creations under his own name, with which he won the bronze medal.

Kestekides settled with his wife in Ghent , where the 1913 World's Fair took place. There he received the gold medal and opened his first tea salon in Veldstraat 34. This was followed by the opening of the “Pâtisserie Centrale Leonidas” in Brussels on Rue Paul Delvaux. After Leonida's brother Basilio was called to order by the police for street sales in 1935, he was forced to sell his products in a shop. He then rented a room in a building on Boulevard Anspach 58. In 1937 he officially applied for a trademark patent from the city of Brussels.

In 2013 Leonidas celebrated its centenary. Leonidas has been the official purveyor to the Belgian royal family since November 15, 2013 .
